Declared war on allied mercenaries on load save?

I’m playing as southern Empire, have the Hidden Hand as mercenaries with a couple of their parties in my army. I started a big battle late at night, so half way through quit to go to bed, knowing I’d saved right before the battle anyway like a good little save scummer. Now when I reload any of the precious 3 autosaves I immediately declare war on the Hidden Hand and their parties abandon my Army. Bushwacker's keep reverting to 2nd formation instead of 5th formation

I am not sure why this keeps happening i thought maybe i did something wrong but i purposely checked formations before and after a fight and it keeps switching between 2 and 5 i want them to be in 5 to train them up but the game keeps trolling me. it happens every so often after a few fights i checked other units like forest bandit and freebooter they seem ok just the bushwacker giving me issues.
