The game is suddenly virtually unplayable because of choppiness and lag, but I haven't changed a single setting from when it looked and felt amazing, solutions?

Since launch the game has run like a dream, but in my most recent load-up after a few weeks of taking a break, the game is now a choppy mess. I can barely play at all. What has changed recently that would essentially break the game for me?
