How to improve auto resolve outcomes?

I auto-resolve 90% of the fights I get into, what can I do for better results? Should I find 1-2 companions with high tactics skill and keep them in my party? Will that help? Do I have to assign them into any role? There is no slot for tactics role, is it enough if I just keep them in my party? As for sieges, should I keep a companion with high engineering skill and assign him in the engineering slot? I just purchased bannerlord after seeing it was on sale on steam, hopped into game to see this weird background flickering whenever engaging in dialogue with npcs from the map.

Anyone else get this? I tried both e1.5.6 and e1.5.5 and they both have it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
