Disappointed Diplomacy

Just got back into the game agter the war sails expansion. And I am disappointed at the shallow level of fiplomacy still in the game. So many aded features and yet they could not add a truce mechanic...or even a way to influence nobles to change policy. Furthermore the changes they made are banal and redundant.. Explain to me why my "ALLY" Just deckared war on me after i PAID them 500k money to attack another faction. Keep in mind this was with 72 days remaining on the alliance. Will the Free update come to 8th gen consoles?

from what I understand the DLC will not be available for 8th gen consoles (ps4 etc) , but I dont really care about that since the free update has the features I actually want. So I have to wonder if the 8th gen editions of the game will receive any more updates. is there any information on this yet?
