(Pendor) got my first castle. What now?

Managed to snag Rela keep in the baccus empire as a baccus vessel even though I wasn’t the one to take it. (Thank god for friends). Can someone explain to me how the upgrades and Noble recruits work? Wiki isn’t that helpful. So I need to train the steward to unlock upgrades? Also what Knight order can I convince to reside there? I’m with radiant cross but they can only have their chapter in ethos.
