Party speed

I just started a new vlandian sandbox run. Usually I'm battania. I feel my party speed is to slow and am chasing bandits all the time. I got a lot of pack horses and verb working in trading to raise funds also fighting as mercenary. What are all the steps for maximum party speed optimizing as vlandian? How to control another party

I made my wife in charge of another party and now I'm going bankrupt because she recruited 100 troops. Help? Is there anyway to tell her "calm down dude we aren't even at war." Or a way to make it so she just follows me? Please help.
