Party speed

I just started a new vlandian sandbox run. Usually I'm battania. I feel my party speed is to slow and am chasing bandits all the time. I got a lot of pack horses and verb working in trading to raise funds also fighting as mercenary. What are all the steps for maximum party speed optimizing as vlandian? What gender are mount and blade players?

So I was discussing this with my partner, and we cam to the conclusion that, like most strategy games. there's probably a large majority of male players. I'd really like to see what the community looks like.
