Lads, Smithing! WTF is going on with pommels?

Im talking about 2 handed axes specifically as thats what I've had a good bit of experience with but perhaps this is true for the others. My question is WTF is the point of the pommels and especially the high tier ones? I totally get in principal that they effect weight and swingspeed. They also factor into handling and damage too. But here is the thing...stats wise they seem to do litterally nothing compared to eachother besides cosmetic. And compared to no pommel its such a minor difference as to be unnoticed. Does the ''feel'' of the different pommels exist cos I havent got the time to try that shit out. What is their point? Back when Bannerlord was announced, I vaguely remember that, in the announcement thread, people were discussing the choice of the title "Bannerlord." Does anyone else remember that?
