Party speed

I just started a new vlandian sandbox run. Usually I'm battania. I feel my party speed is to slow and am chasing bandits all the time. I got a lot of pack horses and verb working in trading to raise funds also fighting as mercenary. What are all the steps for maximum party speed optimizing as vlandian? Tip for beating a army larger than you

Have decent soldiers (footmen-trained footmen and a lot of cavalry) charge the enemy do a lot of damage in short time retreat and repeat until you have more men than them
