I hate Horse Archers

Why did I decide to sign up with the northern empire as a Merc whilst they were fighting the Khuzaits? I've never fought them before and the one time I don't go with a decent horse rider because I want to fight on foot, this happens. Knightly helmet with face guard a.k.a the italo-norman helmet

Does anyone else think that this leather whatever on the back and sides serves purely to make this helmet look worse? It looks so cheap it hurts, and it doesn't fit any high-tier armour because of it.
