I hate Horse Archers

Why did I decide to sign up with the northern empire as a Merc whilst they were fighting the Khuzaits? I've never fought them before and the one time I don't go with a decent horse rider because I want to fight on foot, this happens. Tips for a Sturgian Campaign (1.7.2)

I'm thinking of starting a new long-term Sturgian Campaign, perhaps even my first attempt at full map completion. So, any tips from you veterans? I've heard Sturgia are kind of bad at the moment.
