I hate Horse Archers

Why did I decide to sign up with the northern empire as a Merc whilst they were fighting the Khuzaits? I've never fought them before and the one time I don't go with a decent horse rider because I want to fight on foot, this happens. Are there plans to make factions killable?

I'm pretty sure the main quest is centered around destroying the Imperial factions, by unifying or replacing them, but I also heard that even when you do this it doesn't work. Is this just an early access thing?
