I hate Horse Archers

Why did I decide to sign up with the northern empire as a Merc whilst they were fighting the Khuzaits? I've never fought them before and the one time I don't go with a decent horse rider because I want to fight on foot, this happens. Are training skills useless?

So I was looking for ways to increase the rate in which I gain higher tier troops and since training was so overpowered in warband I was looking into getting a companion for it or just stating into it myself. But the more I look into the shittier it seems. Like come on 2xp per day? It seem rigged from the start.
