Any way to assign only certain troop types to a formation?

Hi new player here, question in the title. Let's say I only want my Swordsmen in Formation 1, is there a way to do this with any granularity? I know there's the small icons which allow you to set "preferred types", but is there any way to do it with a bit of precision? Or a mod which allows this? Thanks in advance. What is up with looters?

I just started playing again after a while, and I cannot seem to catch looters. They always run to some crevasse on the map and then we ping pong around forever despite being mere pixels apart from one another. I have actually had my model overlap with theirs and still not attack. My speed, despite being higher than theirs, will also be reduced to match theirs exactly. This has never happened to me before.
