How to improve auto resolve outcomes?

I auto-resolve 90% of the fights I get into, what can I do for better results? Should I find 1-2 companions with high tactics skill and keep them in my party? Will that help? Do I have to assign them into any role? There is no slot for tactics role, is it enough if I just keep them in my party? As for sieges, should I keep a companion with high engineering skill and assign him in the engineering slot? Death at childbirth for the player character?

So I have noticed that female NPCs can die while giving birth.

I play a female character who is about 37 YO and about to give birth for the 5th time (hope I get twins this time lol), so I am curious:

Did anyone ever have their female main character die during childbirth?

Does anyone know if death at childbirth chances rise as the character (NPC or not) ages?
