Your very first playthrough what faction did you join?

What happens to my inventory if my character dies?

Will the character I choose to play as next (Assumedly my child) inherit all of my belongings? Or will it all just evaporate? Because I have a lot of good loot and custom crafted weapons that I'd like to pass down to my descendants.
