How are sieges still broken?

I remember playing this when the game first released on early access. There were definitely issues with the pathfinding of friendly infantry during sieges, but nothing major that couldn't be fixed.

Playing through the game now, soldiers still refuse to path to ladders or siege towers. This results in infantry blobbing up against the walls because they're trying to walk through the walls.

What gives? Anyone else having these issues? Am I doing something wrong? To be honest, the game doesn't really feel any different from first release. The biggest things I've noticed are completed skill trees... but that's about it.
