Declared war on allied mercenaries on load save?

I’m playing as southern Empire, have the Hidden Hand as mercenaries with a couple of their parties in my army. I started a big battle late at night, so half way through quit to go to bed, knowing I’d saved right before the battle anyway like a good little save scummer. Now when I reload any of the precious 3 autosaves I immediately declare war on the Hidden Hand and their parties abandon my Army. What would make late game better?

We all love this game, and many of us feel like late game is lacking. What do you think could be done to improve it?

I think it would be cool for a new formitable faction to appear when you control 3/4 of the map. I’d also kill for a better inventory system.
