Declared war on allied mercenaries on load save?

I’m playing as southern Empire, have the Hidden Hand as mercenaries with a couple of their parties in my army. I started a big battle late at night, so half way through quit to go to bed, knowing I’d saved right before the battle anyway like a good little save scummer. Now when I reload any of the precious 3 autosaves I immediately declare war on the Hidden Hand and their parties abandon my Army. This crap irks me (Rant bout tributes)

Why does it say that I have to pay tribute to the enemy for peace, when I’ve been absolutely stomping them in the war. Every battle in an open field I’ve decimated their lords and armies. But still says I gotta pay for peace.
