What is fast mode?

What are some good singleplayer mods that are based in modern history (from 1800 onwards)

Futuristic mods count too. I've played Starwars and I felt it was kind of shallow. I'm currently playing The Red Wars which is cool but also isn't finished yet and I'm looking for something with more polish.

Any input is appreciated!
