My city is being starved, how do i avoid this?

So here I am with 400 troops in my garrison. an enemy army shows up, sieges me for 2 days and attacks. I now have 77 troops fit for battle.

What the hell? How do I increase my food stores? should I fill the chest in the hall with food?

I'm on Viking Conquest BTW

Back when Bannerlord was announced, I vaguely remember that, in the announcement thread, people were discussing the choice of the title "Bannerlord." Does anyone else remember that? It was a useless topic to discuss, but I kept coming back because I was so hyped about the game and was hoping for more information about it.
