i can't sue for peace while actively dying

im in 2 front war, all my vassals are captured, i have one castle left after vlandia cane with the 2000 men army and took my city , and i cant make peace even i i want to pay tribute. I’ve never couched a lance

Playing on PC. My weapon says it can be couched. But when I’m riding at full speed my character never seems to couch it no matter what button a press, I’ve read it’s X but I’ve tried that and many others. What am I missing?
