STUCK AT BEGINING OF WARSAILS

I escorted the merchants and fought off two ships in a sea battle . I'm on the Scourge of the Seas quest. It tells me to talk to Gunnar via a golden exclamation point. I go to talk to him and he says thst he is waiting on new." What do I do now? It seems as though there are no obvious prompts and the quest still exists. I need help specifically with advancing this quest...I can't believe I am stuck this early in the game. If anyone has any advice, I'm really desperate. Help needed

So I’m currently a vassal for Battania, I’m trying my best to become king and overtake Caladog, I’ve tried ‘the hunting incident’ gave up in the end as he would never permanently die. I also tried following him around until he ended up in a town dungeon but even after setting up contact I have no option to prison break? I’m so confused, am I just going to have to wait till he dies of old age? Getting kind of bored waiting around for him! Any help is appreciated thanks!
