New to the game - super frustrated my relation decreases when I don't accept a quest

I'm playing Floris BTW. Is there any way to turn this off or, alternatively, change the cheat engine command so that "like me" only adds +1 relation. So many quests are stupid and I have no interest in doing them, but it doesn't make sense that I should get negative relation just for declining. ugh
