How to improve auto resolve outcomes?

I auto-resolve 90% of the fights I get into, what can I do for better results? Should I find 1-2 companions with high tactics skill and keep them in my party? Will that help? Do I have to assign them into any role? There is no slot for tactics role, is it enough if I just keep them in my party? As for sieges, should I keep a companion with high engineering skill and assign him in the engineering slot? [AWOIAF] How do I improve the relation with the people of a castle I took over?

I'm currently a vassal of Robb and he gave me Ten Towers in the Iron Islands early on. My relation with Ten Towers has been slowly decreasing since then and I'm currently at -103... How do I go about improving relations? I don't get any rent money from them.

I just got Iron Holt and I don't want the same thing to happen (they're already at -8). I'm not even sure why my relations with these are going down. Is it simply because I'm at war with the Iron Islands?
