how to wipe out a kingdom?

I went to war with the northern empire because im supposed to reunite the empire or something and take over empire lands so I took all of the lands, convinced 80% of the clans to join me. and guess what he does. he hires EVERY SINGLE MERCENARY IN THE GAME. no clue how he affords this with no fiefs and his whole family is in prison.
