I took a lot of tips to heart

I was given a lot of tips and went to try them....everytime I do I get attacked at the very starts by either sea raiders or Deserters and can't do anything about. I even got hit by a party of 66 bandits.....this game definitely takes some time getting used too and a lot of work to figure out what to do and not to do.
