How to improve auto resolve outcomes?

I auto-resolve 90% of the fights I get into, what can I do for better results? Should I find 1-2 companions with high tactics skill and keep them in my party? Will that help? Do I have to assign them into any role? There is no slot for tactics role, is it enough if I just keep them in my party? As for sieges, should I keep a companion with high engineering skill and assign him in the engineering slot? Why do you choose the kingdom you do?

What makes you guys choose a particular kingdom?

I find myself constantly going khuzait because of the full blown mounted archer play style, but I really like the way some of the other warriors from the other kingdoms look, like Vlandian knights for example. I just get nervous playing them because I never know the setup I should play with them.

Why do you choose your kingdom and what party setup do you aim for and why?
