Declared war on allied mercenaries on load save?

I’m playing as southern Empire, have the Hidden Hand as mercenaries with a couple of their parties in my army. I started a big battle late at night, so half way through quit to go to bed, knowing I’d saved right before the battle anyway like a good little save scummer. Now when I reload any of the precious 3 autosaves I immediately declare war on the Hidden Hand and their parties abandon my Army. Cavalry crossing over each other

I like to have 5 groups of troops: infantry, archers, 2 cavalry, and horse archers.

I set up the cavalry on either side of the infantry at the start. When the battle starts, the two cavalry groups tend to swap sides, running straight into each other and causing a massive traffic jam until it all sorts out.

I've tried swapping their sides but it's still the same.

Anyone run into this and know how to deal with it?
