STUCK AT BEGINING OF WARSAILS

I escorted the merchants and fought off two ships in a sea battle . I'm on the Scourge of the Seas quest. It tells me to talk to Gunnar via a golden exclamation point. I go to talk to him and he says thst he is waiting on new." What do I do now? It seems as though there are no obvious prompts and the quest still exists. I need help specifically with advancing this quest...I can't believe I am stuck this early in the game. If anyone has any advice, I'm really desperate. Have I put myself in an impossible position…

As you can see I’m currently sandwiched between to massive armies. I’m a vassal of the Southern Empire on my first run. I’m thinking I should cut my losses and leave with my fiefs. I can’t keep fighting these wars on both sides like this. It keeps dividing too much attention away from either side so we keep losing a lot of ground. I was originally gonna try and take over the Sourhern Empire but I haven’t had a chance to and the Empress is still alive somewhere…

Back when Bannerlord was announced, I vaguely remember that, in the announcement thread, people were discussing the choice of the title "Bannerlord." Does anyone else remember that?
