Declared war on allied mercenaries on load save?

I’m playing as southern Empire, have the Hidden Hand as mercenaries with a couple of their parties in my army. I started a big battle late at night, so half way through quit to go to bed, knowing I’d saved right before the battle anyway like a good little save scummer. Now when I reload any of the precious 3 autosaves I immediately declare war on the Hidden Hand and their parties abandon my Army. Mod for longer kicking reach?

They never got around to fix the kicking, so was wondering if theres a mod to do that? Especially with war sails i'd like to kick people into the water. If there's no mod, does anyone have pointers which classes to look in to mod it myself?
