Declared war on allied mercenaries on load save?

I’m playing as southern Empire, have the Hidden Hand as mercenaries with a couple of their parties in my army. I started a big battle late at night, so half way through quit to go to bed, knowing I’d saved right before the battle anyway like a good little save scummer. Now when I reload any of the precious 3 autosaves I immediately declare war on the Hidden Hand and their parties abandon my Army. Siege defenses too hard or skill issue?

I recently was in a siege, and i got my but absolutely kicked despite having all top tier troops as well as only a third less than the attackers. its waaaaayyy too hard now. even when they got on the ladders, i checked, and despite maybe one or two people on the wall so far, they had nearly double kills! this is rediculous
