I hate Horse Archers

Why did I decide to sign up with the northern empire as a Merc whilst they were fighting the Khuzaits? I've never fought them before and the one time I don't go with a decent horse rider because I want to fight on foot, this happens. Town siege.

Has anyone else noticed that town garrison don't go down when you starve them? I was wearing a town down to no food but the garrison wouldn't drop besides the 1-2 that get taken out each time the catapult fires.
