How to make more money from caravans and worshops?

I purchased both of these workshops like a year ago and still, they are hardly profittable. Both of the cities are suplied with grain and have prosperity 4000+ and my caravan is the same case (the leader has 140 trading skill and the caravan makes like 70 gold a day max.) Any advice?
