Taking lords prisoner?

Have not played since war sails first released. What’s up with taking lords prisoner now? Before when you’d defeat a party it aways gave you the option, now it seems like half the time they just slip away somehow. Made the mistake of spamming through dialouge when im trying to get my notable relations up so they can actually be loyal, but whoops, guess unless i find two full hideouts im done.
