What "wrong"-cultural armours do you guys wear when playing a different culture?

I know a lot of players don't stick to a monotone cultural getup when they play, but a lot of players probably do what I do; try to stick to culturally appropriate armours and weapons for the culture I am playing. I take this mentality with me to smithing as well, where I try to smith and use weapons that suit my characters culture appropriately. But I have some exceptions; I often use animal pelts for shoulder armour when playing as a Vlandian or Imperial. If I play as a Sturgian I may use some Khuzait armour. And if I play as a mercenary or Lord for a different cultural faction than my character is from, I may use a mix of regional armours and use my own culture for a weapon. Example; I played a Nord corsair mercenary for the Empire. I used gilded scale Imperial armour with gilded scale shoulderguards, golden pirate gauntlets and boots, and a brass Aserai helmet with a Nord one handed sword with gilded pummel and handguard. Anyone else give themselves similar cultural restrict...

Is there a penalty for giving up fiefs that you don't want?

I chose the Vlandian background for my character because I wanted to claim Vlandian fiefs as mine. I like the way they look and where they're located. So far, Caladog has given me Rovalt and Ocs Hall, but now we are at peace with Vlandia and fighting Sturgia.

He also gave me Varcheg, but TBH it's a terrible city. It's been sieged so many times that it has like 700 prosperity. I could probably turn it around but it will take ages, especially with Caladog's terrible taste in kingdom policies. I have to run festivals and games like 90% of the time.

I could train up a governor to help, but that is a lot of effort for a terrible fief in a highly contested area. So my question is this: if I give the fief back to the kingdom to go through another vote, does that get logged somewhere and counted against me? When we go back to fighting Vlandia, am I going to be passed over for Ostican/Pravend because I refused to manage Varcheg?

I ask because I'm pretty sure failing to defend a fief counts against you. I just don't know if giving one away also counts against you.

To be clear, I don't mind if Ostican/Pravend go to another clan that needs it because they don't have any fiefs or something like that. I just want to make sure I'm not crippling myself by giving up Varcheg.
