Any way to assign only certain troop types to a formation?

Hi new player here, question in the title. Let's say I only want my Swordsmen in Formation 1, is there a way to do this with any granularity? I know there's the small icons which allow you to set "preferred types", but is there any way to do it with a bit of precision? Or a mod which allows this? Thanks in advance. Should I grab the dlc or actually completely a campaign first?

Grabbed the game on sale a couple weeks ago and have been hooked. Figured i wouldnt worry about dlc at first and at least do one campaign first. I'm now needing/wanting to restart my third attempt and wondering if i should just grab the dlc now instead of waiting?
