Any way to assign only certain troop types to a formation?

Hi new player here, question in the title. Let's say I only want my Swordsmen in Formation 1, is there a way to do this with any granularity? I know there's the small icons which allow you to set "preferred types", but is there any way to do it with a bit of precision? Or a mod which allows this? Thanks in advance. Disable battle death without disabling aging and birth?

I want to have a dynastic game, but in my current one all of the lords are just dying on the battlefield. I'm a vassal of the southern empire, and half of the starting clans have died off. Half of the remaining clans only have one living member. Is there a way to disable death in battle without disabling birth and death from old age?
